Where does the time go?

Is it sucked up by Saturn
Through a straw
Satiating Him
Until tomorrow?
Or does it drift in the atmosphere
Floating like smog below the clouds
Waiting to dissipate and
Turn back into stars?
Or does it lie down in Babi Yar
Upon the days that went before it
Waiting for the dirt to cover it
And be forgotten?
When we’re inside of it
We eagerly await its passage
Counting down the minutes and hours
Knowing that the next thing coming
Down the pike will be better
In the Year of the Snake
It placed its tail in its mouth
And began to swallow
Gagging on each scale
And squeezed out the remnants of
The Age of Pisces
Leaving us searching for
The last pennies on the sidewalk
Humming the theme songs of
Long gone sitcoms
Peering in the windows of
Empty restaurants
Praying for the dawning of
The Age of Aquarius
But wherever it goes
We frantically chase after it
Like a bus we’re sure to miss
Finally feeling our folly
Too late, as always.
